Parking in Spain: road markings

Leisure

What about the color codes for parking?

In Spain, different colors of street markings indicate where you can and cannot park. Yellow lines usually mean that parking is prohibited, white lines indicate free parking spaces, and blue lines indicate paid parking zones, often with a time limit.

Overview of the colors and their meaning:

  • Yellow markings:

Parking is prohibited. This can be a solid yellow line or a yellow zigzag line.

  • White markings:

You can park here for free.

  • Blue markings:

These are usually paid parking zones, also known as “Zona Azul” or “Zona ORA”. You usually have to pay for a parking ticket or use a parking disc, and there may be a time limit.

  • Green or orange zones:

These are often intended for residents with a permit, but sometimes visitors are also allowed to park there for a fee.

Tip: If in doubt, it is best to observe other parked cars in the area and check the signs. Sometimes signs also indicate the times the parking rules apply.
