Guardamar del Segura

Guardamar is located in the Costa Blanca South, just below Santa Pola, on the Segura River.

Guardamar is a coastal town and municipality that is part of the Vega Baja del Segura region. Its name means “guardian of the sea” in Arabic. It has great ecological and landscape value due to its 11 kilometres of beaches of fine, golden sand, its coastal dunes that form a natural park of 800 hectares, and its pine forest, which was planted at the beginning of the 20th century to stop the dunes from encroaching on crops. Among its beaches, El Rebollo, La Roqueta and El Moncayo stand out, all of which have the Blue Flag distinction.

Guardamar also has a rich historical and cultural heritage, which is reflected in its monuments, museums and fiestas. Among its most emblematic buildings are the Arab castle-fortress, the Iglesia parroquial de San Jaime, the Ermita del Rosario and the Torre de los Americanos, a 380-metre-high naval antenna built in 1962 by the United States Navy.
