“La Marina Alta” is a large white cathedral that was built at the beginning of the 20th century, by order of wealthy Freemasons. With its location in the middle of the center, it is the symbol of Benissa.
A beautiful impressive, characteristic white building in neo-Gothic style. In the 20s of the last century, this church was built by the inhabitants themselves and was nicknamed: Sea Cathedral because of its dimensions of almost 60m long and approx. 30m high.
Depending on the time of day, you can enjoy more or less of the refined incidence of light, also on the gold-decorated statue of the patron saint above the main altar, through the beautiful dome that adorns this church.
In the side aisles there are beautiful gilded altars and the main altar is also beautifully decorated. The immediate surroundings of the church with the cozy square in front of it also invite you to visit.
Despite being located inland, Benissa has a 4km long coastline. This has several small, hidden bays. Also several sandy beaches such as “Els Pinets” or “La Caleta la Fustera” are part of this town.
