Calpe

Located on the northern coast of the province of Alicante, in the Marina Alta region, is Calpe, a municipality famous for the Ifach Rock. This impressive 332-metre-high rock rises from the sea and is one of the icons of the Costa Blanca. It is possible to climb all the way to the top, from where you can enjoy wonderful views.

Calpe is also home to beautiful beaches and coves with fine sand and clear water, such as Levante Beach, Arenal-Bol Beach or Racó Bay. These locations offer the perfect setting to enjoy sunbathing, swimming, water sports and the local gastronomy.

Along the promenade there are numerous beach bars, restaurants and shops. Water sports enthusiasts will also find what they are looking for here, as you can go diving, snorkelling and surfing.

Another place of interest in Calpe are the salt pans, ancient salt-mining sites from Roman times, now a protected wetland area where you can spot birds such as flamingos, herons and storks. Calpe also has a rich historical and cultural heritage, reflected in its monuments such as the 18th-century fortress-castle, the 15th-century parish church of Our Lady of the Snows, and the Renaissance city walls.

Places of interest in Calpe

Las Salinas

Between the buildings of Calpe you will find the saltwater lake Las Salinas, which was created by the old salt mines of Calpe. These salt mines used to be the economic centre of Calpe. The salt was used to preserve the many fish that were caught in Calpe and was also exported to other parts of Europe. The saltwater lake is now a protected nature reserve. Many special species of animals live there, including flamingos.

Parque Natural del Peñon de Ifach

Peñón de Ifach is a large impressive rock that proudly rises 332 meters above the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The rock is connected to the mainland by an isthmus. Peñón de Ifach is one of the smallest nature reserves in Europe, but attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually. In the national park you can also spot rare fauna and flora. The limestone rock is also seen as the symbol of Calpe and dominates the skyline of Calpe.

Mirador Morro de Toix

Do you want the most beautiful view of Calpe and its surroundings? Then you should go to Morro de Toix. You reach the viewpoint via a 5 km long hiking trail that is clearly marked. Here and there you have to climb with ropes, which can make the climb quite adventurous. But don’t let that stop you, because once you have reached the top, you will be rewarded with a phenomenal view of the coastline of Calpe and the Costa Blanca. Especially at sunrise and sunset the view is breathtaking.

Catamaran cruise

Would you like to get to know the beautiful coastline of Calpe in a different way? Then we recommend taking a catamaran cruise. An experience you will never forget. Explore the different bays, enjoy a glass of wine and the view of the coast and jump in the clear blue water to cool off.

Torreó de la Peça

Right in the centre of Calpe, you will find the defensive bastion Torreó de la Peca. This medieval tower served in the 15th century to protect Calpe from enemy attacks. Today, it houses a museum where you can visit temporary exhibitions.
